IAFC - Industrial Area Foundation Canada
The Industrial Areas Foundation Canada is a registered charity 848143442 RR0001 that was created to teach community organizing skills and develop leaders who can create effective local community alliances. Currently four organizations are affiliated to Industrial Areas Foundation Canada (IAFC) . The Metro Vancouver Alliance, the Metro Alliance for the Common Good (Calgary), Greater Victoria Acting Together (G-VAT) and the Greater Edmonton Alliance. The charitable purposes of the Industrial Areas Foundation Canada are:
- to educate and inform the public and other registered charities by providing courses, conferences, workshops and seminars on community involvement, leadership training and volunteerism;
- to educate the public about community development through workshops and seminars;
- to conduct research relating to social and economic issues and to disseminate the results of such research;”
IAFC fulfils these purposes by commissioning its affiliates, who are non-charitable societies, to carry out its research and educational work. Each of these affiliates hire community organizers who act primarily as educators. These community organizers work to identify and develop community leaders. They do this through an educational model involving both formal leadership training and teaching as people are engaged in planning, action, and evaluation.
